What Counts as a Level 2 Electrical Emergency?
Anything urgent involving the connection between the network and your property.
A service line down, damaged or pulled away from the building. A point of attachment that has failed. Storm damage to the overhead service line. A private power pole that has come down or moved. Arcing, burning smells or visible heat at the meter box. A supply fault leaving the property without power while the street still has it. Damage to underground service lines from excavation.
That last distinction is the useful one. If the whole street is out, it is a network fault and Ausgrid or Endeavour Energy are dealing with it. If it stops at your boundary, it is on your side, and it is ours.

What Should You Do Right Now?
If something is dangerous, safety comes before everything else.
A fallen or hanging conductor: stay well clear, keep others and animals away, and treat it as live regardless of appearance. Call the distributor's emergency line first. Do not approach it or attempt to make it safe yourself.
Burning smell, smoke or visible arcing at the switchboard or meter box: if it is safe, turn off the main switch. Do not open a board that is hot or smoking. Get out and call.
Water into the meter box or switchboard: do not touch it. Isolate at the main switch only if you can reach it safely and dry.
Power out at your property only: check your main switch and safety switches. If they will not hold, or nothing is obviously wrong at the board, the fault is likely in the supply and it needs an emergency Level 2 electrician.
Then call us on 0485 824 714.

Why Can't a Regular Electrician Fix an Emergency Supply Fault?
Because of where the fault is.
A licensed electrician can work on everything inside your installation. The connection point, the service line and the metering belong to the network side, and only an accredited Level 2 ASP is authorised to work there. It is how the ASP Scheme works in NSW.
The practical consequence at 11pm is that calling the wrong trade costs you a call-out and gets you no closer to power. If the fault involves your supply connection, the point of attachment, the service line or the meter, you need an emergency Level 2 electrician from the start.

Why Choose Sydney Level 2 Electrician for Electrical Emergencies
Power out, wire down, or something at the meter box that should not be smoking? Electrical emergencies do not arrange themselves around business hours, and the ones involving your supply connection need a specific kind of electrician. A general electrician cannot work on the network side of your connection point, which is exactly where most supply emergencies happen.
Sydney Level 2 Electrician has been responding to emergency supply work across Sydney for 15 years. We are an accredited Level 2 ASP under the NSW Government's ASP Scheme, authorised on the Ausgrid and Endeavour Energy networks. Emergency work is completed to AS/NZS 3000:2018 and the NSW Service and Installation Rules, certified with a CCEW, and covered by our Lifetime Labour Warranty. Same-day response, available 24/7 across Sydney and the Blue Mountains.

When Do Electrical Emergencies Cluster in Sydney?
Predictably, which is worth knowing.
Storm season, through spring and summer. Wind brings down service lines, pulls attachments off fascias and drops branches across spans. Western Sydney takes more severe hail; the coast takes southerly wind events. The Blue Mountains takes both and has the vegetation to make it worse.
Hot afternoons. Supply and capacity failures cluster on the hottest days, when every ducted air conditioner in the street is running and older consumer mains across the west and south west are working hardest. Many of those calls end up being a power supply upgrade rather than a repair.
After excavation. Underground faults show up when someone has been digging, often a few days later.

Where we work
Level 2 electricians across Greater Sydney
We are on the road across the whole metropolitan area, from the CBD and the Eastern Suburbs out to Penrith, up to the Hills District and down through the Sutherland Shire. If you are not sure whether we reach you, call and ask.
What Happens When We Arrive?
Making the situation safe comes first, before any repair is scoped.
Then we diagnose. Establishing where the fault actually is constitutes most of the work on a supply fault; see supply fault finding for how diagnosis runs when the cause is not obvious.
Then we repair what can be repaired to restore supply safely, which sometimes means a permanent fix on the night and sometimes a safe temporary arrangement with the full repair scheduled. We tell you which you are getting and why.
Then we test, restore supply, and issue the compliance documentation. Emergency work is documented exactly like planned work.

After the Electrical Emergency
Worth raising while it is fresh, because emergencies are rarely bad luck alone.
A service line that came down in a storm was usually already tired. An attachment that failed had been corroding for years. A supply fault on a hot night is usually an undersized supply that was always going to be found out.
Once power is back on, it is worth understanding whether what failed was the whole problem or the first symptom. If a defect notice follows the incident, see electrical defect notices. If the repair needs to happen without another daytime interruption, we can schedule it as after-hours work.

Are you on Ausgrid or Endeavour Energy?
Every Level 2 job is lodged with the network that owns the wires in your street, and the paperwork differs between the two. Type your suburb and we will tell you which one you are on. We are accredited for both, so either way you are covered.
A guide only. Network boundaries can split a single street, so we always confirm the network before we lodge anything.
FAQs
Emergency Level 2 Electrician questions, answered
The things people ask us most about emergency level 2 electrician in Sydney. If yours is not here, call and ask.
What should I do before you arrive?
Keep everyone well clear of any fallen or low wire and treat it as live. Do not touch the service line, the pole or the meter box. If there is fire or an immediate danger to life, call 000 first.
Do you actually answer the phone overnight?
Yes, we answer 24 hours a day, seven days, including weekends and public holidays. You get a Level 2 electrician on the phone rather than a message service taking details for the morning.
My neighbours have power and I do not. Is that my problem?
Probably yes. If the street has supply and you do not, the fault is usually on your side of the connection point, which is Level 2 work. If the whole street is out, it is a network outage and the distributor is already on it.
Can you restore power the same night?
Often we can make it safe and restore supply in the same visit. Some faults can only be made safe overnight with the permanent repair done in daylight, particularly where a service line or pole has to be replaced. We tell you which it is on site.
Is there a call out fee for emergency work?
Quotes are free and we do not charge a call out fee to come and look. After hours work is charged at the applicable rate for the work itself, and we tell you what that is before we start.
